Police raid troublesome hostels in Tembisa South

The hostels which were raided included, Ehlanzeni, NCP and the Blue.

In an effort to rid the communities of illegal firearms and to fight the scourge of drugs, members of Ekurhuleni District SAPS held a clean-up operation on Thursday night in some of the township’s hostels in Tembisa South.

A number of hostels were raided and arrests made. The hostels which were raided included, Ehlanzeni, NCP and the Blue.

“Our members who were on duty managed to arrest a number of suspects who were charged for possession of unlicensed firearms and bribery after trying to bribe police officers.

“During the raid, police found an AK-47 magazine with 52 rounds of live ammunition. We also arrested four suspects for dealing in dagga and a further one was found with stolen property and was also charged for trying to bribe police officers,” said police spokesperson Capt Nelda Sekgobela.

She said police also confiscated three firearms for non-compliance with the Firearm Act and a further two suspects charged for violation of their protection orders.
