A 54-year-old man was arrested by the Tembisa police for allegedly raping his 50-year-old cousin on Sunday at around 5.30am.
Police spokesperson Capt Ralidzhivha Manyadza said the incident happened at the victim’s house after they had earlier hosted an unveiling ceremony.
“It is alleged that the victim was raped at her place. According to a police statement, the family had just hosted an unveiling ceremony and many of her relatives attended. After the ceremony some of the relatives, including the suspect, slept over,” said Manyadza.
He said the victim was fast asleep and did not even hear the suspect entering her room and undressing her.
“She said she only woke up moments later to find the suspect on top of her. She then screamed for help and that is when other relatives came to her rescue and quickly called the police, who then arrested him. He is currently waiting to appear before the magistrate’s court,” said Manyadza.
