Bribery suspect arrested in Winnie Mandela

Police nabs bribery suspect.

A 37-year-old man’s luck ran out after he was arrested for trying to bribe police officers not to arrest his friend.

Capt Ralidzhivha Manyadza, the spokesperson of the Rabasotho Police Station, said police received a tip-off about a man who was busy stripping a motorbike at Winnie Mandela Zone 4.

“Our dedicated officers promptly responded to the address given by community members and upon arrival found the suspect in the act.

“After the two officers had interrogated him, he revealed that the bike actually belonged to his boss. He was then instructed to call his boss who, after being called and told what was happening, offered the police officers money.

“The police agreed and set up a meeting at the Total garage in Hospital View. The second suspect (boss) then offered a R300 bribe to the officers and this is when he was also arrested and charged,” explained Manyadza.

Both suspects are from Mozambique. Manyadza said the bike was stolen in Brooklyn on July 12, 2019.
