Robbers still active around Gautrain station

Despite arrests, attacks on pedestrians still occur

There seems to be a pattern of robberies around Rhodesfield Gautrain station.

Two recent robberies confirmed by Kempton Park SAPS spokesperson Capt Jethro Mtshali took place just after 6am.

“On July 19, a victim walking along Anson Street from the station was attacked by two suspects armed with a firearm. They took his cellphone, bank cards and R250 cash,” Mtshali said.

On August 14, at 6.20am another victim was walking along Ventura Street to the station when she was confronted by an armed suspect wearing a beanie. He forced her to hand over her cellphone. When she refused she was tripped, and to scare her even more the suspect fired a shot. She was unharmed.

Mtshali said in both incidents no arrest had been made.

“There have been several arrests in certain cases and matters are before courts. The normal patrols are still being conducted by the Crime Prevention Unit in collaboration with other law enforcement agencies, such as the metro police and security personnel.”
