Three arrested after ATM scam at Glen Balad Mall

The victim was busy using the ATM when the suspects interfered and tempered with the ATM and his bank card disappeared.

Three suspects were arrested on charges of being in possession of suspected stolen property on High Road in Brentwood Park on Wednesday afternoon.

The suspects were found in possession of different bank cards and cash believed to be stolen.

This followed an incident on the same day at Glen Balad Mall.

“A victim alleged he went to the mall to withdraw cash from an ATM when he realised a man that used the ATM before him had left his wallet behind,” said Sgt Dipuo Ditshego, deputy spokesperson for Kempton Park SAPS.

“The victim called the man and returned the wallet. The victim continued to use to ATM when a man, who was with the owner of the wallet, tampered with the ATM.”

The two men ran away and fled the scene in a vehicle.

The victim realised his bank card was stolen and he immediately called a security company and gave a full description of the suspects.

“The security officers patrolled the area and saw three suspicious looking men on High Road who fitted the description of the suspects and they were arrested,” said Ditshego.

“All suspects, aged 30, 31 and 36, were detained at the Kempton Park holding cells pending their appearances at Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court.”
