Not much comes from refuse removal promises

With an average of six trucks a day they were doing a day-schedule in two days.

Despite promises that more refuse removal trucks would be on the road by the end of September, it seems the City of Ekurhuleni is still struggling to achieve this.

According to an update given to ward councillors on Wednesday, only six trucks are still servicing Kempton Park instead of the required 13.

In early September the metro issued a statement, saying the City had bought an additional 23 waste removal trucks to ensure its refuse removal service stays on schedule. These vehicles will be delivered in November.

It furthermore stated all waste removal trucks servicing Kempton Park that were in the workshop for repairs would be repaired by September 30.

Yet, Kempton Park still battles with only six vehicles.

According to the update supplied to councillors, areas that will be attended to today [Thursday] are Serengeti, Kempton Park Extension Eight, Kempton Park Ext Four and Bonaero Park.

Bonaero Park needs three trucks to be fully completed.

The department did not manage to attend to Cresslawn, Croydon and Rhodesfield on Wednesday.

No Thursday areas will be attended to today.

In an update at 8pm on Wednesday evening, the department said with an average of six trucks a day they were doing a day-schedule in two days, meaning all remaining Wednesday areas that will not be attended to on Thursday will be completed on Friday.

On Saturday and Sunday they will be doing Thursday and Friday areas respectively.
