Three shootings in four days during Birch Acres house robberies

Community members are urged to be alert at all times.

A case of attempted murder is under investigation at Norkem Park SAPS following an incident that occurred during the early hours of Sunday.

It is alleged a 28-year-old victim was sleeping when he heard strange noises at the kitchen door. When he went to investigate, he saw two suspects holding a bolt cutter.

“He asked the suspects what they wanted and what they were doing, which was when the suspects fired two shots at him and ran away,” said Sgt Johanna Madiga, spokesperson for Norkem Park SAPS.

“The victim was not shot, but he later discovered that the bedroom window was also broken.”

Madiga said nothing was taken as the suspects didn’t manage to gain entry to the house.

It appears suspects are targeting the area as this was the third incident with a similar modus operandi reported from October 3 to 6.

In the first incident suspects shot an officer through a bathroom window and gained entry by breaking the kitchen door. They stole items in the house and fired shots in one of the rooms and fled the scene.

In the second incident, which also happened on Sunday, suspects shot through the bedroom window to gain entry into a house, pointed a firearm at the victim and stole items from the home. Although the victim was unharmed, the suspects demanded money before fleeing from the scene.

Community members are urged to be alert at all times.
