Four arrested for possession of illegal firearms in Enhlanzeni

Suspects in custody for possession of illegal firearms.

Four suspects were arrested for possession of three unlicensed firearms and ammunition.

These suspects were arrested by the Johannesburg Flying Squad (JFS), National Crime Intelligence, JMPD and EMPD members during a joint sting operation on Monday evening.

According to JFS spokesperson Raymond Sambo, members of the police were following up on information about illegal firearms in Tembisa, which led them to a house in Lusaka Street, Enhlanzeni Section.

“Upon entering the premises and after a thorough search was conducted, two firearms, a Browning pistol and 9mm Norinco, were recovered.

Investigation of the serial numbers revealed that they were stolen in KwaZulu-Natal.

Further information led police to the house across from the frist one. Upon searching they found a Rossi revolver with serial numbers filed off and a police cap. All four suspects were arrested and detained at Tembisa South Police Station,” he said.

The four suspects, aged between 25 and 31, will be appearing in the Tembisa Magistrate’s Court soon.
