Tembsa South SAPS celebrates the outcomes of a case at the Johannesburg High Court, where four suspects from Ehlanzeni Section in Tembisa South were found guilty on October 22 and sentenced to life imprisonment for charges including double murder and attempted murder.
The suspects, aged 23, 25, 27 and 30, were sentenced for several crimes. In December 2017, the body of a man (44) was found by Tembisa South police with stab wounds next to Leralla Train Station.
The deceased’s cellphone was in possession of his girlfriend, who was also staying in Tembisa. At a later stage, the girlfriend noticed transactions were made from the deceased’s bank account since notifications were sent to the cellphone number.

Capt Neldah Sekgobela, Tembisa South communications officer, said the deceased’s girlfriend informed accused number one, who was the deceased’s nephew, about the matter, not knowing he was the mastermind behind her boyfriend’s murder and that he was the one making withdrawals from the deceased’s account.
“The accused noticed the girlfriend had his uncle’s cellphone and she will soon figure out what was going on. The accused, with his three accomplices, then planned to kill his uncle’s girlfriend.
“The accused called the girlfriend to come to the deceased’s house, so she and her sister went. On arrival, her throat was slit and she died and her sister was stabbed 37 times with knifes and left for dead.
“The sister woke up after the suspects had left and was taken to hospital, where she recovered,” said Sekgobela.
The suspects were found and sentenced as follows:
• Vuyo Sangweni (accused one) – the deceased ‘s nephew – two life imprisonments for two counts of murder, 30 years’ imprisonment for robbery, three years for theft and 10 years for attempted murder.
• Bafana Mhlanga – two life imprisonment for two counts of murder, 30 years for robbery, five years for attempted murder and three years for theft.
• Zenzele Manqele – two life imprisonment for two counts of murder, 30 years for robbery, three years for theft and 10 years for attempted murder.
• Justice Ndwandwe – one life imprisonment for one count of murder, 15 years’ imprisonment for robbery and 10 years for attempted murder.
Sekgobela said the Ekurhuleni District Commissioner, Gen Vincent Leshabane, and Tembisa South SAPS station commander Col Nthipe Boloka were impressed by the good work done by the investigating officer.
