Dangerous box on West Street fixed

Vandalism is an ongoing problem across the City of Ekurhuleni.

Vandalism remains a big headache for the City of Ekurhuleni.

A vandalised electrical box on West Street stood open for more than five months, posing a danger to those passing by.

Themba Gadebe, spokesperson for the City, said their operations and maintenance team would never ignore such a dangerous box exposed for such a long period.

“It was attended to as soon as it came to our attention.”

A concerned resident brought the open box near Jet to Kempton Express’ attention, after which we notified the metro.

“The box has been made safe in the interim and the team is working on repairs. Vandalism is an ongoing problem across the City of Ekurhuleni.

“We are in the process of implementing anti-theft technology and installation of protective structures on the boxes,” said Gadebe.

The City of Ekurhuleni immediately made the box safe once it became aware of it.
