No time frame for repair of sinkhole on Snake Road

Consultants from the metro’s planning department, along with officials from the Gauteng Department of Transport and the Department of Roads and Storm Water, were present on site shortly after it was reported.

The sinkhole that formed on the corner of Snake Road and Golden Drive on November 2 was caused by a broken stormwater pipe, said Ekurhuleni metro spokesperson Themba Gadebe.

The road has been closed in both directions and the sinkhole has been sealed off.

“An assessment is currently ongoing and the geotechnical consultant will release an interim assessment report to the relevant section when completed.

“This will detail the cause and also recommendations on a rehabilitation method,” said Gadebe.

He added that the Gauteng Department of Transport was busy with the road and a time frame for repairs would be decided by the department.
