WATCH: Fiskaal Street floods as residents are without water again

The City of Ekurhuleni has released no information

Glen Marais residents were in for a grumpy start to the weekend when residents in certain areas woke up with no water and electricity on Friday morning.

The electricity and water are expected to be restored during the course of Friday, said ward councillor Jaco Terblanche.

According to him, the electricity should be restored by noon and the water by about 6pm.

He says the electricity failure is due to a faulty cable at an “unknown location”.

“It is an underground cable fault which has been dug open at 7am in order to isolate the cable for the necessary repairs to be done.

“I believe it will be restored around noon if no further complications arise.”

He said the reasons for the low water pressure or no water relate to multiple pipe bursts or leaks on Fiskaal Street, Andrea Street, Spekboom Street and Knoppiesdoring Street.

He believes the water problems are related to last week’s outage when the water system ran dry, causing air pockets in the pipes which resulted in pressure damaging weak spots at certain areas.

“It takes seven to 14 days for air pockets to surface and once the system was refilled, it most likely resulted in multiple burst or leaking pipes,” said Terblanche.
