Thabiso Happy Chauke was sentenced to seven years’ imprisonment for culpable homicide on November 28.
According to court papers, in March 2018, Chauke and the victim had a fight at a local tavern in Temong Section. The victim, now deceased, was hit with a stone in the head during the fight and sustained serious injuries.
He was then rushed to Tembisa Hospital, where he was certified dead just moments after arrival.
Police were called by the hospital and a murder inquiry was opened, which led to the arrest of Chauke.
He was, however, charged with culpable homicide instead of straight murder and the court found him guilty and sentenced him to seven years behind bars.
