Four business robbers each get 15 years imprisonment

Four men were each sentenced to 15 years imprisonment after being found guilty of robbing a business in 2016.

Nkosi Martin Mjila (24), Sipho Mjila (27), Bhekani Duma (25) and Luthando Rhasman (24), were each sentenced to 15 years imprisonment at the Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court on November 17.

The four were sentenced after being found guilty of robbing a business situated on the corner of Du Plessis Avenue and Commissioner Street in June 2016.

“Five men entered the shop pretending to be customers before they robbed the staff and owner of cash and cellphones,” said Capt Jethro Mtshali, spokesperson for Kempton Park SAPS.

“Of the five men, two were armed. Police and security officers were summoned to the scene, and although the men tried to run away, four of them were apprehended and one got away.”

Mtshali said only the cash and cellphones were recovered.

“The firearms that were reportedly used during the robbery were nowhere to be found. The four men didn’t get bail and remained in custody from the day of the arrest until their sentencing,” explain Mtshali.

“Thank you to intelligent and investigative skills of Det/Sgt Jason Bramdaw who investigated the case and ensured the perpetrators don’t get bail.”
