WATCH: Burst water pipe on Van der Walt Street ‘still going strong’

Residents have since tried to block the water using sticks and a big stone.

A burst water pipe on Van der Walt Street has been gushing out water since Tuesday afternoon.

Concerned resident, Annamarie Opperman, said she reported the matter to the municipality on the first day it started.

“I was passing by when I saw water gushing from a hole in the road. It is a great cause for concern because water has been leaking for two days,” said Opperman on Thursday.

“I tried reporting the leak to the metro using the My Ekurhuleni App. Something needs to be done, as a small section of the road has already been significantly damaged due to the leak.

Residents have since tried to block the water using sticks and a big stone.

When Express visited the site on Thursday morning, there were no metro contractors in sight.
