Thief eventually sentenced after committing same crime four times in 7 years

Thaba Sonja (36) was sentenced to eight years imprisonment for committing the same offence four times in different years.

It was heard in Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court on November 2, that Sonja was arrested four times for attempted theft out of a motor vehicle.

“Sonja was first arrested in November 2012, then again in February 2017 and in November 2017 but was released on warning pending investigations,” said Sgt Dipuo Ditshego, deputy spokesperson for Kempton Park SAPS.

“The final arrest was in November 2018 when he was detained until his sentencing.”

The incidents all occurred in Kempton Park.

“After a marathon trial Sonja was sentenced to two years imprisonment on each account which amounted to eight years,” said Sgt Dipuo Ditshego.

“The case was investigated by D/Sgt Jason Bramdaw.”
