Eskom avoids load shedding on Monday – for now

Customers are requested to continue to use electricity sparingly.

Eskom has stopped stage two load shedding at 11pm on Sunday night after initially announcing that rolling blackouts would continue until 5am on Monday.

In a statement issued late on Sunday evening, Eskom said its water levels and pumped storage schemes were replenished adequately so load shedding could be terminated earlier than planned.

“We have managed to conserve diesel at our open cycle gas turbine generators and continue to work to replenish our diesel levels.

“The system remains constrained and vulnerable with unplanned breakdowns at 13 041 MW at 9pm on Sunday. Should there be a significant shift in plant performance and an increase in unplanned breakdowns, load shedding could be implemented at short notice,” said Eskom.
