Frelimo party supporters are still waiting for a celebration

Disgruntled party supporters said they were tired of playing the ‘wait and see’ game

Thousands of Tembisa-based Frelimo political party supporters are still waiting for their leaders to honour their promise of throwing a big celebration for them.

During their final elections rally held at Ivory Park Section Two, the Mozambican’s Frelimo party leaders, Leonor Mondlane and Nyeleti Mondlane, promised their locally based supporters a celebration of the century should their party win the Mozambican general elections, held in October last year.

Speaking to this paper, disgruntled party supporters said they were tired of playing the ‘wait and see’ game and want action from their leaders.

“Before the elections, they came here and made all sorts of promises and we went all out and mobilised our countrymen to go home and vote. We all went home and put them back in power. We fulfilled the end of our bargain and when it was time for them to keep their word, they were nowhere to be found. We are telling you as a newspaper to pass our message to them that we are still waiting for them to come back and officially thank us and celebrate with the people,” said Alberto Nkuna, a local party supporter.

Addressing members during their final campaign, Leonor Mondlane promised party members that they will come back here to slaughter cows for the entire Ivory Park, but only if they win the elections.

“I want to make a commitment that if you all go back home and vote for us once again, I will personally ensure that the entire executive comes here and slaughters five cows just to celebrate with you. All that we need from you, our loyal members, is to go home and vote,” she said.

Even though attempts to get hold of Mondlane’s office proved fruitless, party supporters said they will keep on waiting until their leaders come back.

Frelimo won the Mozambican elections and has ruled Mozambique for the past 44 years.
