55 suspects arrested over weekend

All the suspects are expected to appear at Tembisa, Kempton Park and Edenvale magistrate’s courts

Members of Ekurhuleni district zone 1 embarked on a street patrol and closing major roads with road blocks in Tembisa, Kempton Park and Edenvale over the weekend and they had many successes.

Capt Nelda Sekgobela, Ekurhuleni district communications officer, said the members were able to arrest 55 suspects in all three patrolled areas.

“Fifteen of the suspects were arrested for assault cases, eight for dealing in and being in possession of drugs, eight for driving vehicles while under the influence of alcohol, five for malicious damage to properties and five for shoplifting,” said Sekgobela.

“Other suspects were nabbed for cases such as sexual assault, intimidation, rape, theft and possession of unlicensed firearm.

“All the suspects are expected to appear at Tembisa, Kempton Park and Edenvale magistrate’s courts soon to face their charges,” said Sekgobela.
