Kempton SAPS welcomes new officers
The officers are among the 4 971 officers fresh from the police academy
Kempton Park SAPS boasts 17 new police officers who joined the station.
The officers are among the 4 971 newly trained officers fresh from the police academy who completed the Basic Police Development Learning Programme.
Capt Jethro Mtshali, spokesperson for Kempton Park SAPS, said the new constables would assist the local police station greatly.
“The officers will supplement the shortage of manpower,” said Mtshali.
“They come at the right time where we need more police officers. Among other things, they will assist with police visibility, especially in areas where crime is prevalent.
“We haven’t received such a big number of officers in years and we are grateful they will add towards policing in the community.”
The young men and women, who mostly reside in Tembisa, were excited to join Kempton Park Police Station.
Mtshali told Express the officers would be allocated to various units within the station. Some of the constables were heard saying they hoped to join the detectives.
Mtshali stressed the importance of working hard and furthering their studies in order to move up the ranks and not only remain constables, the first rank of policing.
“They need to better themselves and work hard in order to become better officers in the community they serve,” said Mtshali.
“They also need to learn that corruption doesn’t pay and if you get tempted, you will get caught. It is also important for them to know they compromise their integrity and future by allowing corruption. These people who encourage them to get involved in corrupt behaviour are only using them.
“We look forward to working with the new officers and wish them all the best.”
