Two employees who work for a courier company were hijacked in Esther Park on January 3.
The employees were doing a delivery when the incident occurred. The delivery van carried parcels with cell phones.
“It is alleged that the victims stopped at a house on Amatungulu Street to deliver a parcel. One was inside the delivery van and the other was looking for the parcel at the back,” said Sgt Sharon Tsotsotso, spokesperson for Sebenza SAPS.
“A vehicle stopped next to theirs and two guys got out and pointed a firearm at them. They instructed the men to get inside the back of their van and they drove off with them.”
Tsotsotso said the victims didn’t know where they were taken to until the vehicle stopped somewhere in Modderfontein.
“One of the victims said soon after their vehicle stopped, they were taken out and told to face down while the suspects off-loaded the parcels from their van.
“The victims said they couldn’t take a good look at the suspects’ vehicle but one of them said at a glance it looked like they were in a white VW Polo.”
“After loading the parcels into their vehicle, the suspects put the victims in the back of the van and left them there. Someone came to open the vehicle’s door for them,”said Tsotsotso
According to Tsotsotso, the parcels contained cell phones. The victims were not injured during the incident.
Cases of hijacking and armed robbery are being investigated. It is unclear whether there were more suspects but the victims only saw two men.
