Mob kills one of twins following Hospital View robbery

The mob forced Hleza to walk back to where they found him

A 33-year-old man was beaten to death by members of the community.

The victim, Jabulani Hleza, was beaten following allegations that he was involved in a break-in robbery that recently took place at Hospital View Section.

Police spokesperson Capt Manyadza Ralidzhivha confirmed the incident and told this paper that they are still looking for the people who participated in this act.

“Information at our disposal indicates that the deceased, who was with his twin brother on the day of the incident, was confronted by members of the community from Freedom Square, an informal settlement in Moriting Section, with allegations of house break-in and theft.

“They were both assaulted on the spot but the deceased managed to escape and fled off. A chase ensued and he was eventually cornered at the Moriting Park.

“The mob assaulted him some more,” said Ralidzhivha.

He said the mob forced Hleza to walk back to where they found him, but he must have lost a lot of blood because he just collapsed and died on the scene.

“Realising that he was dead, the mob decided to leave him there. Hleza’s twin brother was never caught and is still nowhere to be found,” added Ralidzhivha.

He said no one has been arrested yet, but police are following up leads.
