More waste collection workers at Kempton depot dismissed

The additional nine employees were notified of their dismissal late yesterday, February 3

The City of Ekurhuleni has dismissed an additional nine Kempton Park waste collection workers for disrupting waste collection, intimidation of workers and damage to property.

The additional nine employees were notified of their dismissal late yesterday, February 3, said Themba Gadebe, spokesperson for the City of Ekurhuleni.

“This latest development brings the total number of employees dismissed at the Solid Waste Division in Kempton Park to 49. The other 40 were dismissed early yesterday.

“The City is implementing an operational plan for clearing the waste backlog that might have occurred due to the disruptive nature of the affected employees’ conduct. Safety of employees who are at work and municipal property remain of paramount importance for continued rendering of the services in a normal environment,” said Gadebe on Tuesday.
