Benoni Flying Squad members nabbed for corruption in Edleen

The three suspects were arrested in Edleen following a trap set by the Hawks.

Three suspects, including two Benoni Flying Squad officers, were arrested on charges of corruption in Edleen on Tuesday morning.

Sgt Andries Phukubje (42), Const Rosina Komana (40) and Stephanie Rakgotho (50) briefly appeared in Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday morning.

The arrests were made when a trap was set for the suspects following a report to police by the victim on Monday.

It is alleged the victim was blackmailed for apparently selling diesel illegally. They allegedly demanded R100 000 for them not to arrest him.

Following the victim’s report, a trap was set in the form of a handover of some of the money.

After the handover, the three suspects were arrested in possession of the R20 000 that was set up as part of a trap.

The Hawks, Norkem Park SAPS and Benoni Flying Squad members formed part of the operation.

Sgt Johanna Madiga, spokesperson for Norkem Park SAPS, confirmed that the officers were arrested and appeared in Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court on February 12 on corruption charges.
