Ivory Park police have opened a case of armed robbery after a Kaalfontein man was followed from a bank, and robbed at his rented room at the weekend.
It is said that upon his arrival at his place, he was accosted by two armed men who demanded money.
He was searched, and some cash was taken from him. One of the robbers took the victim’s car keys, went to the car and search for the money himself.
Ivory Park SAPS communications officer, Capt Bernard Matimulane, said the man came back shortly from the car telling his accomplice that he found the money.
“The victim and his girlfriend were locked inside their room. They managed to get out once one of the tenants opened for them.
“The management of the Ivory Park SAPS are urging members of the public to be extra cautious and vigilant when withdrawing large sums of money.
“We we encourage shoppers to rather pay using their cards as this is safer than carrying large amount of cash,” says Brig David Mbongeni Ngcobo, station commander of Ivory Park SAPS.
As a general precaution, the public is urged to never carry large amounts of cash on them. They must also be aware of their surroundings, especially after they’ve been to the bank.
