Same armed robbers target Kempton Park West residents

An armed house robbery and hijacking occurred within hours of each other

On February 25, two armed robberies occurred in Kempton West, a hijacking and house robbery, allegedly orchestrated by the same suspects, police said.

Norkem Park SAPS spokesperson Sgt Johanna Madiga told Express the first incident was just before noon when a resident from Handel Street was approached by three coloured men, one of whom was armed.

“The victim said she was outside her house when a vehicle entered the yard. Three coloured men approached her and one pointed a firearm at her,” Madiga said.

They pushed her into her house where they tied her up with shoelaces and ransacked the house.

“Items such as clothing, electronic equipment and three cellphones to the value of R13 000 were stolen.”

The victim was not insured and no shots were fired.

Later that evening, at about 8.30pm, a male victim was approached by five coloured men, four of whom were armed, next to the park on Bloekom Street.

“The victim said he parked his grey BMW at the park when he was approached by five suspects. They took his car keys while he was inside his vehicle, then pushed him out and drove off with the car,” said Madiga.

Madiga appealed to the community, specifically in Kempton West, to be highly vigilant at all times, especially when you are vulnerable outside a residence or sitting in a car on the street.

“We ask the community to be on the lookout for coloured men who appear to be suspects in this area,” Madiga warned.
