Tip-off leads to huge drug bust in Birch Acres

Police have received several complaints from residents about the property

Two men were arrested on charges of possession of drugs and dealing drugs in Birch Acres last Thursday morning.

The suspects were found in possession of dagga estimated to have a street value of about R50 000.

This comes after police received a tip-off of people selling drugs at a park in Birch Acres.

“Const Lehlohonolo Moloi said they were also given an address of the suspects. They called for backup from the Crime Prevention Unit and headed to the given address,” said Sgt Johanna Madiga, spokesperson for Norkem Park SAPS.

“Upon arrival at the house in Umunga Street, the officers found two men and began questioning them on the allegations.”

During the questioning, the suspects gave police two bags of money, amounting to about R20 000.

“This raised suspicions. The house was searched and the officers found dagga in two black plastic bags,” said Madiga.

“Both suspects, aged between 30 and 40 years old, were arrested. We have received several complaints from the community regarding drugs being sold from that residence and the park on Ebony Street.”
