Foundation serves hot food at Kempton Park settlement
The hampers that were donated and assembled by volunteers was a small relief during this difficult time.
The De Freitas Foundation (DFF) distributed food hampers and simultaneously served warm food to feed 65 families living in desperate circumstances in Kempton Park on June 6.
The lockdown period has increased the number of people that are experiencing tougher economic hardships than before.

The hampers that were donated and assembled by volunteers was a small relief during this difficult time. The hampers can, on average, feed a family of four for a month.
The hampers were distributed to poor families in an informal settlement.
DFF board member Jeanette de Freitas expressed gratitude to the donors who sponsored the hampers and hot food that was served. “Without these generous donors and sponsors we would not be able to do the work we do among the poor,” said Jeanette.

Manny de Freitas, also a DFF board member, said requests for assistance were received from members of the informal settlement community.
“Due to the lockdown, almost all the families in this informal settlement, who were already in desperate circumstances before the lockdown, have no source of income since the lockdown,” said Jeanette.
“My heart goes out to these people as they are poor. I feel blessed that we are able to help these families a little.”
The DFF has also been assisting other families in need throughout Gauteng and will continue do what it can to assist as many families as possible.
