Laerskool Impala learner tests positive for Covid-19
Two other Gauteng schools were also closed on Friday and will reopen on Monday
A Grade Seven learner at Laerskool Impala has tested positive for Covid-19.
According to a letter sent out to parents on Friday, the school will, on recommendation of the departments of health and education, reopen on Monday, June 22.
In the letter from principal W Jacobs, the learner’s parents informed him the learner was tested positive during a routine test at a hospital.
He said the school would be 100 per cent ready when learners return on Monday.
Jacobs urged parents to keep an eye on their children for any Covid-19 symptoms and keep them home if any of the symptoms is detected. They must also inform the school and are urged to take the child for a Covid-19 test.
“Keep in mind it is also cold and flu season,” said Jacobs.
He said the school followed all protocols as set out by the departments of education and health to keep learners and teachers safe.
Steve Mabona, spokesperson for the Gauteng Department of Education, said the department would give an update on all cases in due course.
Express could not reach the school for comment at the time of publishing.
Two other Gauteng schools were also closed on Friday and will reopen on Monday due to positive coronavirus cases at the institutions. The schools are Hoërskool Noordheuwel in Krugersdorp and Hoërskool Zwartkop in Centurion.
