Terri Bowey (43) can be described as a pioneer in helping those from her community in Kempton Park who are starving and struggling amid this pandemic.
Terri’s Charity helps bring relief to people living in quiet desperation, such as the homeless, those in shelters and informal settlements.
“I have been donating and doing charity work for 20 years. However, our deeds have become popular since lockdown started and people started following the stories on Facebook.
“We don’t rely on the government, but on donations provided by community members.

“Our aim is to get disadvantaged residents back on their feet by finding them accommodation and jobs and also providing food and clothing. Myself and community members provide counselling.
“Donations I receive from Kemptonians go towards clothing and feeding people, finding shelter and jobs for them.
“What influences me is the drive to give hope and the fact that I can prove I am making a difference in the lives of the poor. Lockdown has been a time when people are cleaning out their houses, so they have been very generous with donations.
“Articles are posted weekly on Facebook, so the donors know where their donations are going and they can also see people are getting what I have promised them.”
Bowey appreciates the community as they have gone the extra mile to ensure the homeless, poor and needy are not left in the lurch.
“If you are reading this article you have probably donated to me. I have had tremendous support from the people of Kempton Park and also local businesses. When looking for donations, the community comes to my rescue at all times. I really appreciate their contributions.
“I thank Kempton Park residents for the massive support and donations which have changed a lot of people’s lives.
“What makes my job fantastic is waking up every day and getting thank you messages. This makes me want to do so much more, and I will. Thank you Kemptonians.”
The Birch Acres resident advised the needy to not be silent and seek help as the community is easily able to unite in difficult times to navigate their challenges during the pandemic.
“We are all going through a rough time right now, but if we stand together as a community and help each other it makes life a lot easier. There is always help available.”
