Kempton SPCA hosts successful AGM

The 2019/2020 was a relatively good year for the Kempton Park SPCA despite the challenges the society encountered.

This was heard at the society’s recent AGM held at the Kelvin Estate Hall in Spartan, where there was a better turnout of community members attending than the previous year.

Presiding over the meeting as acting chairperson of the Kempton Park SPCA committee was Simon Welch, who also gave the chairperson’s report and reported on various fund-raising events held and the donations received.

Donations were noted as the biggest source of income during Karin Brown’s treasurer’s report.

The Crusaders Biker Organisation provided the bulk of the donations that were utilised to refurbish the kennels which saved a lot of funds.

Brown also pointed out that the coming year will be challenging due to the pandemic and its impact on fund-raising events.

Kira Sparrow, manager at the Kempton Park SPCA, presented her manager’s report and gave an overview of the ongoing volunteer programme, fund-raising events and outreach and community assistance.

Sparrow also highlighted some of the fieldwork performed relating to rescue and cruelty incidents and the donations received during the financial year 2019/2020.

Sparrow thanked everyone who has contributed towards the betterment of the society.

“Thank you to the companies and individuals who have contributed and continue to contribute towards the society,” expressed Sparrow.

“Thank you to the community and our volunteers for their continued support. A heartfelt and warm thank you also goes to our staff, our family, whom we can’t achieve all we do without their hard work and dedication.

“We have become a family, we share happy and sad moments but the important part is we conquer. Let us always remember that kindness prevails.”

The following individuals were confirmed as committee members for the year 2020/2021: Simon Welch (chairperson), Mark Jansen van Rensburg (vice-chairperson), Karin Brown (treasurer), Ntokozo Makhoba (secretary), Simon Lapping (member), Kevin Mann (member) and Joan Hall (member).
