Pastor Betty Mdhluli (53) is the associate minister of Word of Faith Christian Ministries in Tembisa.
She is a Glen Marais resident and firm believer in creating mentorship pathways for girls and young women in congregation and around the community.

“Our girls need opportunities and an environment where they can learn, grow, and discover their particular gifts and skills, along with a positive sense of self and healthy decision-making,” explained Mdhluli.
“Empowering girls as ministry leaders cultivates women who are empowered to do just that – to lead, serve, and minister to those around them.
“All too often, we are focused on raising ‘good Christian girls’. Girls who are friendly and cheerful, modest and humble, neither pushy nor outspoken.
“The world truly needs women who will speak out, who will take a stand, have an opinion, and tell the truth. The world needs girls to be passionate, to break the mould, to fight for others and fight against injustice.
“We need to balance the society by allowing women to speak out.
“As the church we designed leadership development and empowerment programmes to address the developmental needs and concerns of teenage girls.
“The programmes prepare the girls for after school studies, future careers, marriage and financial planning.”
