Ward 23 Clr André du Plessis serves the areas of Bonaero Park, Pomona commercial area, Atlasville, Goedeburg, Brentwood Park, Northvilla and the northern section of Northmead.

Du Plessis has been serving as councillor since 2000, is passionate about the environment and told Express that, together with petitions from the community to local and provincial government, he has secured the installation of two sets of traffic lights.

These include one at Laerskool Brentwood Park on High Road and the second at Manny’s Hardware on the corner of Atlas Road and Louisa Road.

“These traffic lights act as a major contribution in preventing accidents and potential future loss of life,” Du Plessis said.

“Together with the community and continued pressure on all spheres of government I have championed the prevention of further sewer pollution at the wetland in Bonaero Park. We have petitioned council, provincial legislature and parliament in this regard.

“We have demanded the upgrades to the water and sewer infrastructures in Bonaero Park and Brentwood Park.

“Thanks to many community members, we have collectively managed to feed copious needy families throughout ward 23 during the entire Covid-19 lockdown periods.”

For du Plessis, challenges will always remain the gradual decline of sustainable maintenance of infrastructure and efficient service delivery.

“My main aspirations are to continue in my endeavours by holding the governing party accountable to all residents by providing them with the sustainable and efficient services which they pay for diligently every month.

“This includes not only the normal weekly and monthly service delivery, but the upgrades and maintenance of infrastructure.”
