A Clicks-related incident erupted at the Norkem Square on Mooirivier Drive this morning when mall security guards clashed with members of Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF).

According to Norkem Park SAPS spokesperson, Sgt Johanna Madiga, six mall security guards were confronted by a group of EFF members. 

Madiga said a female EFF member reported that she had been assaulted and two police officers responded.

“SAPS members were talking to the woman when a group of EFF members stormed the six guards. 

“The guards defended themselves by using batons to force the EFF members out of the mall. Reports are that a blank shot was fired by security. The situation is calm at the moment.”

She stated that the female EFF member opened a case of assault at Norkem Park SAPS.

Ward 13 EFF secretary, Themba Mshuqwane, told Express: “EFF has been rolling out the total shutdown of all Clicks stores in the country.”

He said the female EFF member of ward 91 was requested to check on Norkem Clicks.

“This was after we received information that it was open for business. While at the store, security was called and she was ‘thrown out’ of the store.”

“That is when back-up was called to assist her. On EFF members’ arrival, a fight broke out between the EFF and security.”

Mshuqwane said three EFF members were injured in the scuffle.

The Express made attempts to obtain comment from mall management and was still awaiting comment at the time of publishing.
