Kempton Park’s Harris Hlungwani has stirred the negative impact of the pandemic into something more positive and uplifting.
Hlungwani (21) is a professional cookery graduate who got retrenched from work due to the pandemic.
After months of struggling to secure employment, he then asked himself why he must search for employment when he can create it.
This led to the birth of his own catering company – Generis Taste.
Hlungwani launched Generis Taste to invest in his passion for cooking and to fulfill his dreams in expanding the industry and creating employment for the youth in South Africa.

The young chef’s passion for food began when he was 11 years old when his mom would cook food he barely enjoyed. He then took initiative and started cooking for himself until the entire family started to enjoy his food.
After high school, he decided to pursue a career in cookery and enrolled at the prestigious culinary institution, Capsicum Culinary Studio.
This led him to becoming a proudly South African professional chef.
As a chef he specialises in a wide range of food products.
“I just want to make food for all the foodies out there who appreciate good food made with love and passion,” said Hlungwani.
