Van Riebeeck Park resident gives thanks to City of Ekurhuleni

Editor – No matter in which suburb of the City of Ekurhuleni (CoE) one lives, residents everywhere have encountered problems with many municipal services being restricted or unavailable during the pandemic.

This includes refuse collection, grass-cutting, tree-trimming, non-working streetlights, potholes and blocked stormwater drains, to name just a few.

However, when thanks and praise are due, those need to be publicly expressed – the reason for this letter. Uncut parkland areas have been a problem for many months with, in many places, grass and weeds almost a meter tall.

This has encouraged, inter alia, illegal dumping (of all sorts of materials) and an increase in rodent activity. This includes the security-and-safety aspect (especially perps hiding behind overgrown and overhanging trees).

However, when a department responds to residents’ request for action, a thank you is required. On a Tuesday in January, I requested that parkland grass in Van Riebeeck Park be cut – and on the Thursday of the same week, a team arrived and did just that.

Thank you call centre for processing the request and thank you Parks Department for responding so quickly.
