Kempton bids sad farewell to composer Ruan Nagel

Ruan faced the wake of death in Vlei Street while he was on his way to church last Sunday after suffering fatal injuries in a car accident.

A Birchleigh family mourns the loss of their 21-year-old son, brother and friend, Ruan Nagel, whose life was lost in a fatal car accident on Sunday, May 2.

Ruan grew up in Birchleigh North where he spent his formative years at Laerskool Birchleigh and went on to complete his education at Hoërskool Jeugland.

“He was an honourable and honest young man who nurtured high Christian values in his everyday life. He always offered his help and support where he could and put others’ concerns before his own. “Ruan had an appetite for life. He was musical, passionate, talented and creative,” was the words of his father, Sakkie.

Among his friends, Ruan is said to have been a devoted companion who cherished close bonds with those he spent time with. Sakkie added that his son had crept deep into the hearts of the Kempton Kruin congregation.

While he was enrolled for studies in IT, he started working as a multimedia technician at Kempton Kruin in October, last year. His long term plans for his career aspired to be an IT expert.

“He fostered a deeply devoted faith in Christ and expressed his belief to the fullest of his abilities. He lived every day for his King, Jesus Christ, not only in church on a Sunday but for himself, his friends and family,” Sakkie said.

Ruan loved playing his guitar with his musical flair as he had composed and mixed his music and songs. His dad also admitted that his son had a keen fondness for playing Xbox.

“If the readers so wish, they can go to Spotify and Deezer and search Ruan Nagel to listen to music he had composed. One of his pieces is on the Top 50 in Sweden and one of his title tracks have garnered half a million listeners.”

The accident happened in Vlei Street while Ruan was on his way to church last Sunday. Sakkie said his son spent his last hours while enjoying a normal and peaceful family day at home, after spending a few hours at the mall the day before.

Ruan was laid to rest on May 11, at Kempton Kruin. He is outlived by his parents, Marlene and Sakkie, as well as his brother, Wouter, grandparents, friends and family. Sakkie said the cause of his accident is still unknown, but that their peace is nestled in the fact that Ruan joined his heavenly Father.

“To Ruan, everything always evolved around love, as Corinthians 13 says.”
