Boitumelong Secondary gets access to remote learning
Boitumelong Secondary School learners and teachers may use Microsoft Teams via web and mobile platforms, thanks to Orange Business Services.
The Remote Learning Support project was launched by Orange Business Services and Tswela Services, in collaboration with Edupac Software Services, Bulwark Consulting and Wiconnect Business.
This initiative was officially inaugurated in March with the official handover taking place at Boitumelong Secondary School.
The project strives to address the issues of education by providing teachers and learners with internet access and remote learning alternatives.
Following the Ekurhuleni North Connectivity Project Summit in 2019, Orange Business Services contributed to the campaign by making its online collaboration service offering, which includes Microsoft Teams, available to a local school through online and mobile platforms.
Orange Business Services is a network-native digital services company and the global enterprise division of the Orange Group.

More than 1.2 billion youngsters are affected by school closures because of the pandemic in 186 countries throughout the world. As a result, education has experienced significant changes, with the growth of online learning in which learners are taught remotely, using digital platforms.
For many South African schools, learners and educators, this is a struggle.
While some people were fortunate enough to have access to online learning platforms from the beginning of the shutdown, others are still reliant on government and commercial funding to get the resources they need.
Tswela Services provided the necessary materials to be supplied to schools during the project’s initial phase, which was led by the Department of Basic Education.
Following that, a needs analysis was completed and a deadline for schools to submit teacher and learner data was established.
The Edupac South African School and Administration Management System (SASAMS) SMS application was also installed during this phase to help SASAMS schools communicate their information via the Edupac SMS gateway.
Tswela was then tasked with activating Office 365 licences as well as delivering the appropriate training.
Wiconnect Business provided teachers with the SIM cards, routers and data needed to support the project, ensuring that all educators have access to mobile connections, which is critical for online learning.
Wiconnect will also be in charge of delivering and setting up these resources, as well as conducting essential training and providing continuous support until the end of June 2021.
