Still no records traced to confirm decuplets’ birth

“We are not saying the birth did not take place. We are saying we have checked with public and private health facilities in Gauteng and have not been able to confirm the birth of the babies,” said Williams.

Phumla Williams, the director-general of government communication, told the Thembisan this morning the government has still not been able to trace any records of the birth of 10 babies to a woman from Thembisa.

“We are not saying the birth did not take place. We are saying we have checked with public and private health facilities in Gauteng and have not been able to confirm the birth of the babies,” said Williams.

Yesterday, the Thembisan reported that Guinness World Records (GWR) Limited commented that it was yet to confirm the reported new record.

“Government has been unable to verify the authenticity of this birth. We need to verify this story and provide assistance where needed,” said Williams.

GWR Limited senior publicist Jessica Dawes, based in London, said: “GWR is aware of the news that Gosiame Thamara Sithole has given birth to decuplets.

“At the current time, we are yet to verify if this is a record as the wellbeing of both the mother and babies are of top priority.

“Our records team, alongside a specialist consultant, are looking into this and will provide any information as soon as possible.”

The Thembisan calls on anyone with information about the couple to contact the editor, Marietta Lombard, on 082 853 7817.
