CoE announces the completion of Clayvillie reservoir

“The objective of the new reservoir complex is to secure bulk water supply for the entire Clayville mega-city project and the surrounding areas.”

The City of Ekurhuleni (CoE) announced that the construction of the Olifantsfontein Clayville Extension 79 reservoir is near completion.
According to Ekurhuleni’s spokesperson Zweli Dlamini, the reservoir will cater to 463 109 people, and businesses in Thembisa and surrounding areas, which include Clayville Ext 79.
“The objective of the new reservoir complex is to secure bulk water supply for the entire Clayville mega-city project and the surrounding areas, as well as ensure that there is an improved water supply to the existing communities and businesses.
“It is also developed as part of the CoE’s vision to support the exponential and forecast growth unfolding in different parts of the city,” Dlamini said.
He said the value of this contract was R57-million, a total of 34 people were employed on the site and 16 were young people.
“The reservoir is located on the border between Midrand, Ivory Park, Thembisa, Winnie Mandela, Olifantsfontein, Clayville and Tswelopele and it will assist areas that are said to benefit from the Clayville mega-city housing project.
“Once complete, the development of the reservoir will cater to 14 226 residential units, which consist of 5 348 multi-storey RDP units, 5 380 single residential Flisp units and 3 498 multi-storey rental units,” Dlamini said.
