Heritage walk to be hosted in Modderfontein

In addition to the walks, The Dynamite Company Museum will be open to the public during the morning, from 08:00 to 12:30.

To celebrate Heritage Month, Modderfontein Conservation Society (MCS) will host two walks around the heritage precinct of the village.
The walks will include many aspects of Modderfontein’s colourful past and will take place on September 24 at 09:00.
Walks begin at The Dynamite Company Museum at 2 Main Street and last about two hours.
Walk leaders are Keith Martin and Robbie Vermont, members of the heritage section of the MCS.
This will be the 14th time these walks have taken place on Heritage Day, with 2020 skipped due to the pandemic.
Walkers will be requested to wear masks and observe social distancing as per government regulations.
In addition to the walks, The Dynamite Company Museum will be open to the public during the morning, from 08:00 to 12:30.
This will allow walkers and casual visitors to see why the Modderfontein Dynamite Factory was called “A Power for Prosperity” in the area and how it contributed to the wealth and development of Edenvale, Kempton Park and the country as a whole.
The original manager’s home may also be viewed from the museum grounds.
According to Robbie Vermont, the popularity of the walks and the need to restrict numbers due to the pandemic mean that prior booking is essential.
He advised walkers to wear comfortable shoes, hats and to bring something to drink if they feel they will need it.
The cost is R50 per person for the walk and there is no charge for museum entry.
To book a walk contact Robbie on 082 800 3704.
