Police arrest 15 suspects, seize drugs and recover hijacked truck

13 suspects aged 24 to 43 years were arrested for drug related offences in Kempton Park at North Rand, Monument and Park Roads, in Etwatwa at Tsavo North Street, Barcelona Extension 34, In Daveyton at Mocke Street, in Rabie Ridge at Jay, Tuinfluiter, Honeybird and Boshof Streets and in Nuetron Avenue, Brakpan.

Fifteen suspects were arrested and drugs, a truck and two trailers were recovered by the Benoni Flying Squad between August 24 and August 31.

Crystal methamphetamine, cat, nyaope and mandrax were recovered in these separate incidents.
On August 28, officers patrolling along the N12 facing Johannesburg pulled over a white Ford Ranger at the Snake Road off-ramp.

The driver was arrested when officers found 15 transparent bags of dagga, valued at an estimated R5 000, in the back of the vehicle.

On August 31 at around 00:30, officers patrolling the R21 towards OR Tambo International Airport attempted to pull over a white Toyota Quantum with two occupants at the R25 off-ramp.

The driver failed to stop, prompting officers to call for backup. Reinforcements managed to bring the vehicle to a standstill at the Voortrekker Road off-ramp on the R21.

According to police spokesperson Warrant Officer Grant Giblin, officers discovered 10 large bags of dagga inside the vehicle, with an estimated value of R20 000.

Giblin said the occupants were arrested, and officers were allegedly offered a R10 000 bribe for their release, leading to an additional charge of bribery.

The cash and dagga were handed in as exhibits and the Quantum was impounded.

In a separate incident, an abandoned hijacked white Mercedes-Benz Actros truck and two trailers were recovered on Airport Road, Brakpan. The vehicle had been reported hijacked in a Heidelberg case.
Investigations continue in all cases.

The suspects have appeared or are due to appear in local magistrate’s courts on charges of possession of drugs, dealing in drugs, and bribery.
