Thembisa singer embraces life

“Nothing helps me more than singing when I'm stressed.”

Fortunate Madube is an up-and-coming Thembisa-based musician and songwriter.

She is a gospel and amapiano singer who got the nickname Versatile for her ability to seamlessly perform vocally and lyrically in any genre.

Her path was established when her primary school teacher forced her to sing a song for her classmates, which is when her gift in singing and understanding of music, its interpretation, composition and instruction were discovered.

This influenced and shaped her sound as she became a member of a church choir and solo artist.

She has won many hearts by following her dreams, and her distinct style and delivery indicate that she is here to stay in the profession.

“Growing up, I realised my potential, I began to harmonise to famous songs playing on the radio as I went about my everyday activities.

“My passion for singing was reignited, and I felt a sense of belonging. Singing, whether with others or alone, has a strong effect.

“I’m always impressed by how much enthusiasm and encouragement we offer each other as we work with the producers to create a sound, smile at each other, and move our bodies to the beat of the music.

“The first song I produced and sang was a hit, and it was my first time in the studio, but I didn’t think it had a chance to be heard. With each note that comes out, my voice rises as I lift my head and open my mouth.

“The calming words roll off my lips, releasing the stress that had been building up within of me. Even if the sounds aren’t precise or correct, it’s enough to get me through the day. Nothing helps me more than singing when I’m stressed.

“My love of singing stems from the depths of my spirit, mind, and heart. When I sing, I sing with all of my heart and soul, giving it everything I have. “Since I was a child, I’ve always had a strong desire to sing. Even though I am shy and still get uncomfortable and shaky in front of others, singing is my cigarette, my alcoholic drink, and my escape from all the rage and misery when I am alone.

“It is good for aspiring vocalists to be their artists and to constantly be confident in what they are doing. You might as well not do anything if you’re not going to be confident,” said Madube.
