Arbor Day celebrated in Makhulong
Sponsorships handed over to the Thembisan community in celebration of Arbor Day.
The City of Ekurhuleni’s environment and waste management oversight committee, Coca-Cola Beverages Africa, and McDonald’s all gathered at Itumeleng Future Solutions in Makhulong to celebrate Arbor Day.
Sponsorships in the form of recycling plant equipment were also handed out.
CSI Specialist for Coca-Cola Beverages in South Africa, Georgett Naidoo, said that the day’s events focused on the company’s ambitious aim to help create a world without waste by collecting and recycling a bottle or can for every can or bottle sold by 2030, as well as involving communities in the effort.

According to Naidoo, Itumeleng Future Solutions is one of Coca-waste Cola’s collectors in South Africa, which they’ve supported with infrastructure such as fencing the recycling plant’s perimeter, providing a sheltering structure, and signage to help the plant be more organised when handling waste for the Coca-Cola program.
Coca-Cola Beverages SA also collaborated with McDonald’s, which provided seeds and gardening equipment to Itumeleng Future Solutions’ food garden, as well as the city of Ekurhuleni.
As part of the Arbor Month celebrations, the municipality gifted 10 trees to Itumeleng Future Solutions, which were planted by Khosi Mabaso, a member of the mayoral committee for environment and waste management portfolio, and members of the environment and waste management oversight committee.
The MMC says they came to the Itumeleng Future Solutions as part of Arbor Day celebrations and to witness the handover of the donations by CCBSA.
Mabaso has also encouraged people to do away with illegal dumping and adhere to the refuse removal schedules.
The municipality’s making means to assist initiatives similar to Itumeleng in its quest to flight issues of environmental waste management and illegal dumping.
