Robber with toy gun nabbed

“On further investigation, the firearm was found to be a toy gun,” said Ferreira.

Officers from Norkem Park Police Station received a complaint on September 21 about an armed robbery on Lloyd Road, Birchleigh North.

Sgt Barbara Ferreira, spokesperson for Norkem Park Police Station, said on arrival, a 38-year-old man was apprehended.

The police were assisted by security providers.

It was alleged the man had pointed a firearm and tried to steal a car radio from a victim walking down the road.

“On further investigation, the firearm was found to be a toy gun,” said Ferreira.

“Norkem SAPS appeals to the public to be mindful when placing rubbish out on collection day. Displaying boxes from appliances like TVs, car radios and so forth can be an attraction for thieves. Rather tear the boxes into smaller pieces and put them in a black bag.”
