Annual black belt grading held

The annual black belt grading recently took place in Lambton.

Kancho Alex Tebbutt recently commemorated 60 years in sports, which included boxing, judo, karate, kung fu, kickboxing and mixed martial arts.

Recently the annual black belt grading took place in Lambton, where shihan Stanley de Cruz joined and was affiliated under Tebbutt Academy. He also runs his own dojo in Kempton Park.

“The black belt grading was held after a tough 13 hours,” said Tebbutt.

The awards included:
Gift Nazigamba – 1st Dan
Martin Reinhardt – 1st Dan
Monique Scott – 1st Dan
Megan Jones – junior black belt
Alex van Vuuren – second purple belt
André van Vuuren – second purple belt

Tebbutt said the panel of judges who formed part of the grading was strict and held strong to the protocol of the sport.

“Judges included me, de Cruz, shihan Tiffany Knoop and sensei Ismail Pandor,” said Tebbutt.

De Cruz reported the grading was tough and of high standards, where new techniques were introduced pertaining to katas.

“The grading ended with a special knife training session held only for black belt qualifiers,” said Tebutt.
