Local club receives donations on Heritage Day

The Endayeni Section resident hosted a Heritage Day celebration at The Hang Awt 1632.

As a way of celebrating South African cultural diversity and tradition, Shammy Lebyane dedicated his Heritage Day to educating young people about the importance of returning to their roots.

The Endayeni Section resident hosted a Heritage Day celebration at The Hang Awt 1632, where he donated sanitary towels and cosmetics to Ethafeni Section club Qhakaza Tjitji.

According to Lebyane, the event’s main goal was to remind young people about their roots while showing appreciation to the young females of Qhakaza Tjitji for living a healthy lifestyle that will benefit their mental and physical health.

He said a woman’s decision to abstain from sex before marriage has always been important in certain South African cultures and it is gratifying to see more young people dedicated to maintaining their beliefs.

“I have always desired to give back to my community and what better time than on Heritage Day?” Lebyane said.

“Giving back to Qhakaza Tjitji was very close to my heart since I am very fond of following tradition.

“In our day and age, abstinence is extremely rare due to a variety of circumstances, including gender-based violence and the way young people live. Most of them have dedicated their lives to drugs and alcohol, which has resulted in the disregarding of their roots.”

Various stakeholders and community members also took part in the initiative by showing support and rendering motivational talks, including financial and freedom guidance by Matsepo Sematle, gender-based violence awareness by Nokuthula Lediga, sex and marriage talk by Sophy Kgosi Mofokeng and Zithanda by Phindi Sidu, which encouraged young people to love themselves in the face of adversity.

“These young ladies deserve to be shown love and admiration, as well as be empowered, which is why we had outstanding speakers share different life experiences with them. I can confidently say that we achieved the goal of the day.”
