Control Line Nationals a success
Unfortunately, this was the last nationals to be held at Barnstormers as the event will now move to Gariep Dam.
The Control Line Nationals were back at Barnstormers Model Flying Club in Kempton Park on the weekend of September 24 to 26.
It was the first time the event was hosted since Covid-19.
Pilots from across the country took part and the nationals boasted several categories for pilots to showcase their precision aerobatics and speed.
The first event was aerobatics and saw a total of five pilots compete.
Aerobatics consist of a list of manoeuvres a pilot has to complete for points.

Local pilot Evert Scholtz dominated as he managed to keep the lead throughout the day’s flying. He won his first nationals in his home town.
The Goodyear speed and team racing classes saw both pilots and pit crews work overtime with the goal to spend as little time on the ground and more time in the air.
The team racers were powered by 1.6cc diesel motors that reaches speeds up to around 150 mph.
Every team also has a pit member who needs to refuel the plane as quick as possible to ensure the pilot can complete the 100-lap race.
The last class of the competition was the fun scale class, which allowed pilots to fly a model replica of any aircraft. The class is judged primarily on how it looks in relation to the real plane.
Glen Roberts won the overall competition. He also finished third in aerobatics and second in the speed category.
This was the last nationals to be held at Barnstormers as the event will now move down to Gariep Dam.
