Flying Squad members make multiple arrests

Members followed up information on an alleged drug dealer in possession of an unlicensed firearm that led to a residence in Ivory Park

Benoni Flying Squad (BFS) had a successful weekend from October 15 to 17, with multiple arrests made for various crimes.
WO Grant Giblin, the spokesperson for BFS, said a total of 11 suspects were arrested, with four vehicles being recovered and one unlicensed firearm found.

“On October 16, members followed up information on an alleged drug dealer in possession of an unlicensed firearm that led to a residence in Ivory Park Extension Nine.

“A thorough search of the premises led to the recovery of a 9mm pistol with the serial number filed off, two magazines, 10 live rounds of ammunition and 2 300g of dagga,” said Giblin.

“Members patrolling Great North Road, Benoni, at around 11:45 on Saturday noticed a white Mercedes driving recklessly. They proceeded to stop the vehicle and a search led to the discovery of 21 packets of cocaine hidden in a vehicle door panel. The suspect was arrested immediately, whereupon he offered members R300 for his release. This led to an additional charge of bribery.”

Members arrested a further four suspects for possession of drugs in Ebony Park Ext Three and Six and Emaphupeni, Etwatwa.
Mandrax, nyaope (heroine) and crystal methamphetamine were confiscated in these separate incidents.

Two drunk drivers were arrested in separate incidents on Atlas Road, Bonaero Park, and Casuarina Street, Kempton Park.
Members attending to complaints arrested two suspects in separate incidents of assault in Makhulong and Moriting sections, Thembisa. A suspect was also detained after being caught for shoplifting at Daveyton Mall.

The abandoned hijacked vehicles recovered were a silver Nissan Qashqai in Barcelona Ext 34, Etwatwa, reported on a Putfontein case; a silver Toyota Hilux in Tlama Tlama Section, Thembisa, reported on a Rabie Ridge case; a silver Toyota Fortuner in Alliance, Benoni, reported on a Boksburg case; and a white Polo in Elidinga Section, Thembisa, reported on a Thembisa case.
All the cases are still being investigated by the SAPS.
The suspects will appear in local magistrate’s courts.
