Benoni Flying Squad members arrested 12 suspects and recovered five motor vehicles and five unlicensed firearms between October 18 and 22.
WO Grant Giblin, the spokesperson for Benoni Flying Squad, said that the arrests were for dealing in drugs and possession of suspected stolen goods.
“Three of the arrests were in Thembisa,” said Giblin.
He said members patrolling R21 South at the R25 offramp came across a suspicious white Hyundai H100 transporting scrap metal with one occupant inside the vehicle.

Upon searching the vehicle, four bags of suspected stolen copper cables to the approximate value of R40 000 were found.
The suspect was arrested and the goods confiscated.
Five abandoned hijacked vehicles were recovered and included a white Isuzu bakkie at the sports ground in Zone 11 in Winnie Mandela, Thembisa, a white Toyota Hiace in Ivory Park Extension 13, a silver Toyota Corolla on Andrew Mapheto Drive opposite Birch Acres Mall, a white Foton Truck on Green Avenue in Kempton Park and a silver Ford Focus at Inxeweni Section, Thembisa.
